How to Create a House Cleaning Schedule That Works for You

House cleaning is never easy. We always create big, grandiose plans, but after a few weeks, those plans usually fall to pieces. Life often gets in the way, and we become either too busy or too tired to stick to our house cleaning plans. But most of the time we set ourselves up to fail by not creating a house cleaning schedule that actually works for us. Thankfully, this can be avoided. Read on to learn more:

Set Your Own Standards

Often, we try to live up to other people’s standards rather than our own. This can be a recipe for disaster. We attempt to do too much in order to please people who won’t be enjoying the clean space for long to begin with! Instead, set your own standards and determine what you need to get done and what you don’t.

Group Tasks by Frequency

Once you know what you need to clean, it’s time to consider how often you should clean them. Some tasks should be done a couple of times a week, while others can be attended to just once a month. Again, how often you clean something will depend on the standards you set. In general, though, quick and easy tasks like cleaning the toilets or washing your countertops can be done more frequently than heavy-duty tasks like vacuuming or cleaning the windows.

Consider Your Available Time

Your house cleaning schedule should work around the time you have available. If every day is booked except for Saturday, then you should do all your cleaning on Saturday. However, if you have a little free time each day, then break up your cleaning tasks for each day. You can wash the countertops on Monday, clean the toilets on Tuesday, dust on Wednesday, and so on and so forth.

Keep track of your tasks

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it can be easy to forget what you have to do and what you’ve already done. We recommend keeping a simple list of tasks that you can reference every time you clean. Write down what you need to get done and when then place a checkmark on every task you’ve completed.
